Vector Layer Styles

Vector maps sheets are rendered one layer at a time with the top-most layers being rendered over the top of the lower layers.  Each layer (eg, rivers, roads, forest) is drawn according to a particular style and these styles can be arranged, defined and edited in the Vector Layer Styles settings.

The Vector Layer Styles settings displays a table of all the current layer styles including the style name and in brackets a list of keywords that is automatically used to associate that style with a vector map layer (by text matching the with the layer name).  Each style item in the list also displays an example of how that style would appear on the map as a line/polygon, as a point and as a text label.

Change Rendering Order (z-order) of Layers

  • Tap ‘Edit’ at right end of top navigation bar.
  • Use the drag handles (3 horizontal bars) next to each item to drag it into it’s preferred position.

NB:  The layers at the top of the list are drawn first and will be at the bottom of the z-order on the map.  The layers at the bottom of the list are drawn last and will be at the top of the z-order on the map.

Add a New Layer Style

  • Tap ‘Edit’ at right end of top navigation bar.
  • Tap the ‘+’ button next to the ‘New Layer Style’ item at the bottom of the list (may need to scroll to the bottom to see it).

Edit the style’s definition as described below.

Delete a Layer Style

  • Swipe from right to left across an item to display a delete button next to it.
  • Tap the ‘Delete’ button to confirm deletion.

Alternatively, tap the ‘Edit’ button and then the delete button next to the item to be deleted.

Edit a Layer Style

  • Tap the layer style item to display the layer style editor for that style.
  • Edit each item in the style editor view as described in the table below.
  • Tap ‘Back’ to confirm the changes and return to the Vector Layer Styles settings view.

Use the dynamically updating example at the bottom of the view to see how each change affects the style drawing.

Reset Vector Layer Styles to Defaults

  • Tap ‘Reset to Defaults’ at the left end of the bottom toolbar.

This will also clear the cache of any rendered vector tiles that may already be present (as well as the cache of online maps).

Clear Cache

  • Tap ‘Clear Cache’ at the right end of the bottom toolbar.

This will make sure that any changes to the vector layer drawing styles will be applied immediately instead of using cached renderings which used the previous configuration of drawing styles.

Note that this option is not available when the cache is already empty.  This will also clear the cache of online maps.
