Map & Track Locking

Maps, Tracks, Sheets & Waypoints can be locked in order to prevent accidental deletions or other unwanted changes.

Note that locking Maps or Tracks doesn’t prevent editing the subordinate Sheets or Waypoints, respectively.  For example:

  • With Tracks locked and Waypoints not locked, waypoints cannot be deleted, but they can be moved (coordinates changed).
  • With Tracks not locked and Waypoints locked, waypoints cannot be moved (coordinates changed) but they can be deleted.
NB:  The waypoints in an individual Track (or Gazetteer) can have be locked independently of other Tracks using the ‘Waypoints Locked’ switch in the Track Editor view.  This is separate to the overall locking preferences configured in the Settings view.  (See:  Directory, Track and Waypoint Editors.)  Imported tracks start out with waypoints locked (and must be manually unlocked if changes to their waypoints are required).  New tracks start out with waypoints unlocked (and must be manually locked to prevent changes to their waypoints).

Lock Maps

  • Tap the ‘Lock Maps’ switch to toggle map locking on/off.
When maps are locked atlases, maps and sheets cannot be deleted, reordered, renamed, merged or moved into a different parent object.  However, sheets can still be recalibrated and new sheets can still be imported as new maps.

Lock Tracks

  • Tap the ‘Lock Tracks’ switch to toggle track locking on/off.
When tracks are locked directories, tracks and waypoints cannot be deleted, reordered, renamed, merged or moved into a different parent object.  However, waypoints can still be moved (coordinates changed) and new waypoints can still be recorded to the active track and can still be imported as new tracks.

Lock Sheets

  • Tap the ‘Lock Sheets’ switch to toggle sheet locking on/off.
When sheets are locked, sheets cannot be recalibrated or renamed.  However, new sheets can still be imported as new maps.

Lock Waypoints

  • Tap the ‘Lock Waypoints’ switch to toggle waypoint locking on/off.

When waypoints are locked, waypoint recording is disabled (both manual and automatic) and existing waypoints cannot be moved (coordinates changed) or renamed.  However, new waypoints can still be imported as new tracks.
