Map Coordinates & Options

Auto Hide Tooolbars in Map View

Switch off to avoid the toolbars automatically disappearing from the Map View, or switch on to have the toolbars automatically disappear after 5 seconds (tap anywhere on the map view to make the toolbars re-appear for 5 seconds).

Default:  On.

Show Scale

Switch on to display a scale of distance at the bottom of the map view.

Default:  Off.

Degrees Format

Select the format for display of latitude/longitude coordinates.  The options are degrees-only (d.d°), degrees-minutes-seconds (d°m′s.s″) or degrees-minutes (d m.m).

Note that minutes and seconds will be displayed with a leading zero if the value is less than 10.  This makes it easier to see the magnitude of the value at a quick glance.

Default:  decimal degrees (d.d°)

Speed Unit

Select the unit to be used for display of speeds.  Available options are “km/h” (kilometres per hour), “Mph” (miles per hour) and “kt” (knots).

Default:  km/h

Distance Unit

Select the unit to be used for display of distances.  Available options are kilometres (km & m), miles (Mi & ft) and Nautical Miles (NMi & ft).

Default:  km

Spatial Reference System

Select a spatial reference system (SRS) in which coordinates should be displayed throughout Maps n Trax.  Eg, the chosen SRS will be used in waypoint information and tracks’ lists of waypoints.  There are over 4,000 SRS to choose from.

Unless there is a specific need for a particular SRS it is highly recommended to simply use the default SRS.  This will avoid frequent translation calculations between the default and selected SRS.

Default:  Spherical Mercator / WGS84 (default for iOS bundled mapping system)

Default SRS

Tap the ‘Default SRS’ button to select the default spatial reference system for display of coordinates.

Choose SRS

Tap the ‘Choose SRS’ button to display the SRS chooser view.  In the SRS Chooser view, tap an SRS to select it.  The view will disappear and return to the ‘Maps & Coordinates Display’ settings view and will show the selected SRS as being the current SRS.

In the SRS Chooser the search field can be used to enter text to search for within the list of SRS’s.  As text is entered, the SRS list will dynamically update to display only those items which match the search text.

Tap or swipe through the indexes at the right of the list to scroll more rapidly through the SRS list.

Tap the left-pointing arrow at the left end of the top navigation bar to return to the Map & Coordinates Display settings view without selecting a new SRS.

MGRS

Tap the ‘MGRS’ button to have all coordinates displayed in the Military Grid Reference System.  Note that coordinates cannot currently be manually entered in MGRS format so it is for display only.

Keep Device Awake On Battery

Turn the ‘Keep Device Awake On Battery’ switch on to prevent the device from automatically going into sleep mode.

This switch does not affect operation when connected to a power source, during which time sleep mode is disabled when in map view.

This will not affect going to sleep by using the devices sleep button, not when the app has been backgrounded (by home button or by running another app).

WARNING:  This will cause rapid battery drain.

No Temporary Points

Turn on the ‘No Temporary Points’ switch to avoid the step of choosing between an waypoint and a temporary point when creating a new waypoint.  When this switch is on, a press-and-hold on the map view will immediately create a new waypoint in the active track.  When this switch is off, a press-and-hold on the map view will display an action view where an addition choice must be made between creating a new waypoint in the active track or a temporary point which will not be stored anywhere and only displayed on the map (and used for calculations) temporarily.

Background Colour for No Background Map

Tap the ‘Background Colour…’ button and select a colour to be used as the background in the Map View for the ‘No Background Map’ option.
