MAPC2MAPC (Windows Only)

For Windows users, the third party application MAPC2MAPC can warp and optimise plain image files.  It can save them in the .bitmap format (actually structured directories) which was originally designed for use with Maps n Trax‘ predecessor, Bit Map.

The .bitmap structure should not be opened or tampered with, as it contains a strict format of subdirectories and files and making any changes could effectively corrupt the entire map image.

MAPC2MAPC also provides some other capabilities (including rotation to north up). Note that this is a third party application that is not supported by Rocket Splash Games Inc. MAPC2MAPC can be purchased from http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/.

Rocket Splash does not provide support for MAPC2MAPC.  For help using MAPC2MAPC to warp and optimise image files for use in Maps n Trax, please see the help pages on their website.

Save Image from MAPC2MAPC as .bitmap Optimised Image

  • Either open an existing georeferenced (calibrated) map or open an image and georeference (calibrate) it according to the MAPC2MAPC documentation..  See the MAPC2MAPC help pages for more information about how to do this.
  • From the ‘File’ menu, choose the command ‘Write Maps n Trax for iPhone’. If warping is needed, this will be done automatically.  The image will be converted and saved as a folder with a “.bitmap” filename extension.
  • Zip the resulting “.bitmap” folder.
  • Import the zip file (zipped .bitmap folder) into Maps n Trax (see Importing and Managing Documents).

If you have a number of maps of the same type to convert to Maps n Trax, MAPC2MAPC has a batch function that allows you to set up the process and it then runs itself in the background.  To import them all as one map (with several map sheets), place all the .bitmap.zip files into another folder and zip that folder and import that master zip file.
