Map View

Map View is the default view when Maps n Trax is first launched and it will initially display the background map (if the internet is available).  The background map is usually the standard iOS map which is downloaded from the internet on demand.  If any imported maps are currently selected then the imported maps will be displayed overlaid over the background map (if those maps’ part of the Earth is within the Map View).

The map can be navigated in the standard iOS ways, including:

  • double-tap with one finger to zoom in
  • single-tap with two fingers to zoom out
  • pinch with two finger for arbitrary zoom
  • drag with one finger to pan

Additionally, when viewing a raster map, the +/- toolbar items can be used to zoom-switch directly to the next available raster map (if there is an imported map available that intersects the area of the earth currently being viewed).  The ‘next’ map is automatically selected as the map that includes the visible area that has the next closest zoom scale to the current raster map.  See ‘Imported Maps’ at left for more information.

If location services are enabled for Maps n Trax and the location is known by the iOS then the current location will be indicated by the blue blob on the Map View (if the current location is within the map view):

The accuracy of the location data will be indicated by a feint blue circle around the location marker, or if the accuracy area is smaller than the area covered by the marker, a repeated expanding/fading blue circle will be displayed eminating from the location marker.

Toolbars for Access to Common Functions

By default the toolbars at the top and bottom of the Map View will slide off screen after 5 seconds.  To bring the toolbars back on screen after they’ve disappeared, tap the Map View once to make the toolbars slide back onto the screen.  To remove the toolbars from the screen immediately, tap the Map View once to make the toolbars slide off the screen (this works even if toolbar auto-hide is disabled in preferences).

The most commonly used functions of Maps n Trax are accessed by tapping the items in these toolbars.  Detailed instructions about how to use all the functions available from the Map View are available by clicking the links in the list at left.

Leaving the Map View to Access Other Functions

To access features that are not available from the Map View, tap the  •••  (more) item at the right end of the bottom toolbar.  This will replace the Map View with the Tab View through which all other functions can be accessed.

Returning to the Map View

When the Tab View is displayed, tap the ‘View Map’ tab at the right end of the tab bar to return to the Map View.
