  • Can limit searching to a set of selected tracks/gazetteers.
  • Tracks can be locked/unlocked independently of each other using the Track Editor view (locked tracks cannot be deleted, renamed or merged and their waypoints cannot be deleted, moved, renamed or re-ordered).
  • Imported tracks are locked by default. They must be manually unlocked before they can be deleted and before their waypoints can be edited.
  • Subsequent searches hide results of previous search immediately so that activity indicator is more obvious.
  • Controls in the Track Editor are distributed across two panes on iPhone (swipe or use page control to change panes), and better layed out on iPad.

  • GPX import and export.
  • Replaced in-house KML export (but not import) with 3rd party library.
  • Automatic recording now records a waypoint when heading changes by more than 90° (and the previous waypoint was not triggered by a change in heading) in order to more accurately measure distances and speeds of tracks which change direction suddenly such as running a path in both directions.
  • Stopping/starting track recording with one track creates a new segment within the track for the new set of waypoints.  The time and distance of a track no longer includes the time and distance between these track segments.  (However, re-arranging or re-sorting a tracks waypoints will combine them all into a single segment.)
  • Automatically adjusts minimum waypoint recording distance according to speed (behaviour is highly customisable and can be disabled).
  • Search terms and results are retained after selecting a search result then re-displaying the search view.
  • Selecting a waypoint to display as a pin on the map view (via search or track manager) no longer removes the pin for the previously selected waypoint from the map view (although a manually created new waypoint still does clear all previously selected waypoints).  Use the new ‘Clear Selected Waypoints’ button in the search view to explicitly clear all currently selected waypoints.
  • The ‘trigger’ (reason) for each waypoint is now stored and the trigger abbreviation is displayed in the waypoint list.
  • Fixed interface issues and potential crash that could occur after deleting a directory that contained the active track.
  • Activating the app (after sleep or backgrounding) updates track/waypoint overlays, info panel and active track label.
  • Fixed ‘.6’ text appearing after decimal latitude/longitude values.

5.1.3 – 2013-01-17

  • Fixed crash when dismissing default atlas chooser.
  • Changed “Show Lines” switch to “Type” control in Track editor with available types being “Track” (shows lines, calculates cumulative length and total time) and “Gazetteer” (no lines, length or time).
  • Switching a track to type “Track” (or from “Track” to “Gazetteer” and back to “Track” again) causes cumulative length to be recalculated from scratch.  Recalculation of the Track length can also change the time period of the Track if the first/last waypoint have been changed.
  • Improved calculation and display of track length and track time while recording (some tracks may need to be manually forced to recalculate – see above – after upgrade, eg, if they have previously had waypoints removed).
  • Cumulative length of active track removed from info panel.
  • Cumulative length and time of active track added to active track panel while recording.
  • Added lengths, time & average speed to tracks list in directory manager (where available).
  • Added waypoint count, lengths, time & average speed to Track editor (where available).
  • Deleting a waypoint will cause the length of its track to be recalculated from scratch instead of invalidated if the number of waypoints in the track is less than 10,000.  (For tracks with greater than 10,000 waypoints, the “Type” control can be toggled to force recalculation of the track length.)
  • No longer imports duplicates of tracks from KML files generated by Maps n Trax exports.

  • Supports many more datums and spatial reference systems (over 4,000).
  • Displays iOS’ own map imagery for background of otherwise non-mapped areas, when network is available, by default (background imagery can still be disabled even when network is available).   Includes standard, satellite or hybrid iOS maps.
  • Zoom in and out much more than previously possible (whole earth axis visible on screen for map of any scale).
  • Optionally display multiple maps simultaneously, overlapping and/or adjacent each other.
  • Optionally display OSM and other OSM-style free online maps for background of otherwise non-mapped areas, when network is available.
  • Save visible area of OSM-style maps for offline viewing at on-the-fly configurable range of zoom levels.
  • Map view can optionally be set to rotate automatically to maintain orientation with the earth based on the physical orientation of the device.
  • Maps can be calibrated within the app after import using either of 3 different methods (non-OSM, non-MapTiler image types only):
    – Pan/Zoom the map sheet (and/or the background map) by dragging/pinching until the map sheet lines up with the background map.
    – Specify map sheet’s bounds in latitude/longitude
    – Specify any two known points on the map sheet in latitude/longitude
  • Can import and use OSM-style tiles maps (eg, such as generated by gdal2tiles).  These images are both pre-calibrated and pre-optimised.
  • Improved calibration when using .map files (paired with .ozf2 or .ozfx3 files – old formats only).
  • Maps can be grouped into ‘Atlases’ (Atlases previously called ‘Map Sets’).
  • Tracks can be grouped into ‘Directories’ (Tracks previously called ‘Routes’).
  • The table of ‘All Atlases’ (or ‘All Directories’) is automatically bypassed when there is only one Atlas (or Directory).  Instead the table of Maps (or Tracks) within the only Atlas (or Directory) is displayed.
  • Waypoints can be moved between tracks.
  • Sheets can be moved between maps.
  • Much easier to move maps between atlases (and tracks between directories).
  • Atlases, Maps, Directories or Tracks can be easily merged.
  • All items can be easily renamed including sheets, maps, atlases, waypoints, tracks and directories.
  • All items can be custom ordered including sheets, maps, atlases, waypoints, tracks and directories.
  • All items can be sorted alphabetically by title (and waypoints can be sorted chronologically by timestamp).
  • Maps can be hidden by map or atlas.  Tracks can be hidden by track or directory.
  • Some Map/Track hiding can be done directly by popup views directly from the map view, without having to navigate away to the maps or tracks management views.
  • Tracks can be exported to files in Documents area (in addition to emailing them).
  • Maps can be exported to files in Documents area inlcuding Atlases/Maps/Sheets hierarchy (for backup purposes – faster to import than unoptimised originals and maintains calibration).
  • Originals of downloaded/uploaded files remain on the device after import unless the user explicitly deletes them (in case re-importing of the same files is desired).  An alert at end of successful import offers to delete original files or to keep them.  Files can be manually deleted later at any time.
  • Activity Type (none, vehicular, pedestrian) option to allow pausing of location updates and battery saving when auto-recording tracks based on periods without movement.
  • Cumulative length of recorded tracks displayed in tracks manager, and optionally in info panel for active track.
  • Improved options for display of tracks, waypoints and waypoint titles.
  • Options for track display now include lines for tracks and dots, title labels and pins for waypoints.
  • Add new arbitrary waypoint at any location by press-and-hold (for 1 second) at the desired location on the map.
  • Easier to view information for marked waypoints directly (single tap marker to display in information bubble which displays either title or timestamp and either note or coordinate).
  • Easier to edit marked waypoints directly (double tap marker to display the waypoint editor).
  • Easier to move waypoints displayed as pins (triple tap pin – it will turn purple to indicate it can be moved – then press/hold on the pin and drag it to the new location).
  • Display of waypoint titles is optional (per-track), reducing display clutter.
  • Searching can be used to locate arbitrary coordinates, as well as stored waypoints.
  • Waypoint notes are displayed beneath waypoint titles on the map view (when a waypoint marker is tapped).  If there is no note, the waypoint coordinates are displayed instead.
  • Toolbars are re-displayed when re-entering foreground for quicker access to any function after re-activing.
  • Can handle a greater number of waypoints and tracks being visible simultaneously.
  • Improved performance of map panning.
  • Waypoint timestamps are displayed in the device’s configured local time (at time of display) instead of GMT.

  • Back and Forward buttons are now available for navigation with the web browser in the Import View.
  • Tracks and Maps now use separate databases for improved fault tolerance.
  • If either the Maps or Tracks database becomes unreadable (eg, corrupted), the database is deleted and initialised with a new empty database automatically (and the user is notified).  Where possible, the maps are exported to the Document Store first, from whence they can optionally be re-imported.
  • If the application fails to complete launch (ie, does not get as far as displaying the map), the next attempted launch will use “Safe Mode” where the Maps Manager is displayed initially instead of the Map Viewer.  This gives users the opportunity to hide (or delete) atlases, maps, directories or tracks that might be causing problems with display of the Map View (eg, tracks with several thousand waypoints can use excessive RAM causing the application to be killed by the OS).
