Today I’ll be talking about another bad thing that happens in Minecraft, like it or not, it happens! As you can see from the title, this is about minecraft accounts getting hacked, the main reason I’m talking about this is one of my Minecraft buddies just got his stolen 🙁 although he was really careless with his account, I’ll show you how to protect yourself!

Firstly I’ll tell you how his got stolen… there were two guys that ran a Minecraft server, the one was owner the other only Co-Owner, they shared a few passwords like console password to access the files on the server, then Co-Owner gave the owner a password and the owner gave his to the Co-owner, you can see where this is going, Co-owner ran off with destroying the server, taking his account and email (password for email was the same as Minecraft).

So NEVER GIVE YOUR PASSWORD AWAY! Ever, no matter who you think won’t backstab you… we have a few other ways that people hack passwords, without really knowing what the password is (that the person didn’t tell them).

The main other method to get someones password is brute forcing! I’ll give you a quick overview, and how to protect against it! It’s really easy to get a list of Minecraft usernames (1000’s of accounts in one list) even Google will give you large lists, next they put this into a program that tries one or more passwords that are very common like “123456” or “Minecraft” or anything that they think a lot of people would set their password to! It will run all of these passwords through the program and give any ones that finds the right passwords! Often times accounts hacked like this are sold all over the internet for very cheap, making it really hard to buy a used account, without it being hacked! So PLEASE DON’T SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE!

Next we have the the key logger, this one is highly illegal, and really isn’t used much for Minecraft accounts but has probably been used! Basically someone sends you some kind of file that you open on your computer, any picture or program can contain one, it adds very little space to the file, unnoticeable, this is why you only download pictures and anything else from people you actually know! After you download and run that thing its attached you, anything typed in your keyboard is emailed to the password thief! There is one thing you can do to check if you have one, when putting in your password, let’s say my password is “hacked” I would type it in like this hadskljcksdkjed to the thief because of this trick! But how? Every few letters click off the password box then mash some random keys! Then click back on and continue this until the end, but remember if you already put your password in normally, then he will have it so change it with the method used above!

Lastly is a very popular one that a lot of bad people get hacked with, Nodus (a very popular hack client!) is accused of doing this! I’ll go through the steps once again, number one, make a program people think they want (like a hack client) that requires them to log in! And have that info sent back to your email.

As I said Nodus is accused of doing this, although it isn’t confirmed! To protect yourself only put your Minecraft details into Minecraft.net and the real Minecraft program, although other programs like tekkit and technic are quite safe in my opinion, they could also try and still passwords if you have to login!

All in All just don’t give you password away to any program/person and don’t download things from people you don’t trust, and you should be fine!
