What is it?

This mod is one of miners best friends in the World of Minecraft, it alters the in-game compass to navigate you to Diamond Ore.

 

Using the Compass

After the installation of the mod files and you start up Minecraft go ahead and craft a compass if you don’t have one already. Now when you pull your compass out wait a few seconds, it takes time, and there should be several new needles on the compass. The light blue one is the one your after. The blue needle is indicating Diamond Ore and will lead you to a close proximity of the ore.

Digging for Diamonds

Since Diamonds are underground the compass can’t direct you right to the ore when your on the surface, you might even have to dig down a bit just to get the blue needle to appear. Once it appears you need to follow the needle in the specified direction. This can become tedious at times because the odds of you being at the same block level as the Diamond Ore is pretty low.

If the Diamond Ore is below or above you the needle will whip around, so let’s say the Diamond Ore is below you and you walk over it following the needle. As soon as you pass the Diamond Ore the needle will quickly point back the other way. You need to find the area where the needle is being immediately affected and start digging.

In Addition…

Most Minecraft players see this as a Diamond hunting tool but others use it for its other features. You can actually set the Finder Compass to search for specific things; some of those addition features include Strongholds and Mob Spawners.

Mob Spawner locations are good to find if you’re adventuring about and you need some experience or a break from all the mobs in your way. Strongholds harbor chests with goodies inside and of course the End Portal. Just switch the setting on the Finder Compass to set which needle you wish to use and away you go.

My Experience

This mod is extremely useful in Survival or Hardcore mode; you can find Strongholds and Diamonds much easier, which leads to yummy loot faster. To switch the compass settings you need to right-click while you have the compass out and it will tell you what the compass will point you to. I tried to switch the compass settings underground many times and it doesn’t switch, I’m not entirely sure why.

That is the only problem I had with this mod, also if you want a larger range go into the mod files and change the Finder Compass Configuration to add more range. Note however the higher the range the slower your Minecraft will run if you’re using an older computer.
